Banded Snake Eel

The Banded Snake Eel (Myrichthys colubrinus) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking white body with bold black bands, elongated shape, and unique mimicry of venomous sea snakes. Males typically have a slightly more slender and elongated body, while females and juveniles are bulkier, with juveniles showing more pronounced banding. They can reach about 38 inches (97 cm) in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 150 gallons. Provide a deep sandbed for burrowing, live rock, hiding spots, and open swimming space, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020-1.025, temperature ~72-79°F, pH ~8.1-8.4), and a secure lid since they are prone to escaping. Their diet should consist of small fish, crustaceans, polychaete worms, mysis, and brine shrimp, and with proper care, this eel makes a standout and captivating addition to the marine aquarium.
