The Baja Nassarius Snail (Nassarius tiarula) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its small, conical shell, subtle brown and cream patterns, and active sand-sifting behavior that helps maintain substrate cleanliness. This species does not show obvious sexual dimorphism, so males and females are generally similar in appearance, while juveniles look like miniature versions of adults. They reach about 0.5–1 inch in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 10 gallons.
Provide a fine sandbed for burrowing, live rock for shelter, and open areas for substrate movement. Maintain stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4). A secure lid is not required, as they remain mostly in the sand.
Diet should consist of detritus, leftover food particles, and supplemental marine algae or sinking pellets. With proper care, this snail makes a hardy and beneficial addition to reef aquariums, helping keep the substrate clean and aerated.
