Australian Marbled Cat Shark

My species/animal is a fish — Australian Marbled Cat Shark (Atelomycterus macleayi) — a peaceful species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking marbled pattern, elongated body, and graceful swimming behavior.

Males typically have claspers (paired reproductive organs) near the pelvic fins and may be slightly smaller and slimmer, while females/juveniles tend to be larger and more robust in appearance. They reach about 24–30 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 180–300 gallons.

Provide a soft sandbed, ample live rock with caves or hiding spots, and low lighting, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many species are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of meaty foods such as squid, shrimp, silversides, and other marine-origin seafood, and with proper care this fish makes a standout addition to the aquarium.
