The Atlantic Stingray (Dasyatis sabina). It is generally considered a semi-aggressive species that is not reef-safe, admired for its unique disc-shaped body, long whip-like tail, sandy-brown coloration, and ability to glide gracefully across the substrate.

Males typically are smaller and have noticeable claspers near the tail, while females/juveniles grow larger and have a rounder disc shape. They reach about 12–14 inches across the disc (with tails much longer, often doubling total length) and should be housed in aquariums of at least 180–220 gallons.

Provide a soft sandy substrate (to prevent injury), minimal rockwork, wide open swimming space, and gentle water flow, with stable water parameters: salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature 72–79°F, and pH 8.1–8.4. A secure lid is essential since rays can breach the water’s surface.

Diet should consist of meaty foods such as shrimp, squid, clams, krill, silversides, and marine worms (they are bottom feeders and will sift sand to uncover prey). With proper care, this stingray makes a standout display species for experienced aquarists.
