Astraea Turbo Snail

The Astraea Turbo Snail (Astraea tecta) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its sturdy, conical shell, subtle patterned coloration, and effective algae-grazing behavior. This species does not display obvious sexual dimorphism, so males and females are generally similar in appearance, while juveniles are smaller but otherwise resemble adults. They reach about 1–2 inches in diameter and should be housed in aquariums of at least 10 gallons.

Provide ample live rock and hard surfaces for grazing, a sandbed for movement, and crevices for shelter. Maintain stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4). Being a snail, a secure lid is not necessary, though they may occasionally crawl near the tank edges.

Diet should consist of algae, biofilm, and supplemental marine algae wafers if natural growth is insufficient. With proper care, this snail makes a hardy and attractive addition to reef aquariums, helping control algae growth naturally.
