Assasi Triggerfish

Assasi Triggerfish (Rhinecanthus assasi). It is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its bold Picasso-like coloration, striking patterns, hardy nature, and active personality.

Males typically grow slightly larger, display more vivid coloration, and may become more territorial, while females/juveniles are smaller, less colorful, and often less aggressive in comparison.

They reach about 10–12 inches (25–30 cm) in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 125 gallons. Provide ample live rock for hiding spots, open swimming space, a sandy substrate, and secure rockwork. A tight-fitting, secure lid is essential, since this species is prone to jumping.

Temperature: 72–79°F (22–26°C)

pH: 8.1–8.4

Diet should consist of a varied mix of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped squid, krill, clams, enriched pellets, along with occasional algae or plant matter.

With proper care, the Assasi Triggerfish makes a standout showpiece fish in a large marine aquarium, best kept with other robust tankmates that can handle its curious and sometimes nippy behavior.
