Asfur Angelfish, Juvenile Bali Aquarich

The Asfur Angelfish, Juvenile Bali Aquarich (Pomacanthus asfur) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its brilliant dark-blue to black body, striking yellow vertical band, elegant trailing caudal fin, and the unique transformation of coloration from juvenile to adult.

Males typically display similar coloration to females but may grow slightly larger and more robust in body shape, while females and juveniles are distinguished by a more prominent contrasting yellow tail and band with a smaller overall size. They reach about 16 inches in adulthood and should be housed in aquariums of at least 220 gallons.

Provide ample live rock for grazing and hiding spots, open swimming space, and a sandbed for natural behavior, with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and ensure a secure lid since many angelfish are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of a varied mix of mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality marine angelfish pellets, sponge-based foods, and marine algae/seaweed. With proper care, this fish makes a majestic centerpiece addition to the aquarium, admired for both its coloration and regal swimming presence.
