Arrow Frilly Crab

The Arrow Frilly Crab (Podochela macrodera) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its delicate frilly edges on its claws and legs, slender arrow-shaped body, subtle coloration with intricate patterns, and graceful movements.

Males typically have slightly larger and more pronounced claws used during mating displays and territorial interactions, while females/juveniles are smaller with less developed frilly appendages and tend to stay more hidden among rocks and coral.

They reach about 3 to 4 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 20 gallons.

Provide live rock, plenty of hiding spots, and a sandbed to mimic their natural environment, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many crab species can be escape artists.

Diet should consist of small meaty foods like mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and finely crushed pellets, and with proper care, this crab makes a standout addition to the aquarium.
