The African Angelfish, Blue Juvenile (Holacanthus africanus) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its brilliant blue juvenile coloration, striking yellow highlights, bold patterns, and unique transition into its stunning adult form.
Males typically develop a more pronounced body size and bolder coloration, while females and juveniles display the iconic vivid blue tones with yellow accents that make them highly sought after. They reach about 16–18 inches in adulthood and should be housed in aquariums of at least 180 gallons to provide ample space.
Aquascaping should include plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding, caves for shelter, and open swimming space. A sandy substrate can also be beneficial. Maintain stable water parameters with a salinity of 1.020–1.025, temperature of 72–79°F, and pH of 8.1–8.4. A secure lid is recommended, as angelfish can be prone to jumping.
The diet should consist of a variety of mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, marine-based pellets, spirulina, macroalgae, and angelfish preparations containing sponge material. With proper care, this species becomes a show-stopping centerpiece fish in a marine aquarium, transitioning from its vivid juvenile blue to the striking adult coloration that defines Holacanthus africanus.

Several species will be import-to-order and may take anywhere from 3-10 business days to secure. Once your fish is secured, you will be notified, and the quarantine process will then begin.
