3 Spot Domino Damselfish

The 3 Spot Domino Damselfish (Dascyllus trimaculatus) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution. It is admired for its striking black-and-white coloration, bold three-spot pattern, compact size, and lively, energetic personality. Males typically display larger size and more vivid coloration, especially during breeding, and are noticeably territorial. Females and juveniles are generally smaller, less colorful, and often found schooling for safety and comfort.

They reach about 3 inches (7.5 cm) in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons (114 liters). Provide a sandbed, live rock, abundant hiding spots, and open swimming space to replicate their natural habitat and reduce territorial disputes. Stable water parameters are essential: salinity ~1.020-1.025, temperature ~72-79°F (22-26°C), pH ~8.1-8.4. A secure lid is crucial, as these fish are prone to jumping when startled.

Their diet should consist of a variety of foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, pellets, and algae to ensure optimal health and vibrant coloration. With proper care, the 3 Spot Domino Damselfish is a hardy, visually striking addition to any reef or community aquarium, bringing bold personality and dynamic movement to the tank.
